One of the most common questions I receive from my friends and colleagues online is how to get clients for their marketing agencies.

To be honest, it’s really difficult, especially when you’re starting out. It is the same stigma when you’re fresh out of college. Employers are looking for someone with experience to fill the vacant position in the company. So you might ask yourself, I just graduated from college – how am I going to find an entry-level job?

I’ve had the same feeling when I first started looking for my clients. They seem to be looking for big digital marketing agencies. But let me share with you the things I have done and still doing now to get clients for my agency.

1. Know Your Buyer’s Persona

For me, the first step in order for you to get clients is to provide value for your target market. You have to offer a solution that is relevant to their needs and provide answers to their questions. Hence, it is important to know your own buyer’s persona and the easiest way to do that is to treat yourself as your own client. Doing this will show you who you are trying to sell or serve and make you determine the message with which you should be speaking.

When you treat yourself as a client you will know how to speak to the pain points of your buyer’s persona. So before you start, you need to know who you are trying to provide services to and what you specialize in.

2. Blogging

Blogging has become a vital strategy in moving potential clients along the buyer’s journey. But remember that success in blogging does not happen overnight. Hence, you need to put a lot of time and resources into the blog consistently and effectively. Here are my recommendations:

Start A Company Blog

The benefits of blogging are endless. So the next thing I recommend is for you to start a company blog. Have you heard the saying “content is king in the marketing game”? It’s true! Having a company blog will give you an archive of content that can be used across all platforms and devices. Hence, your message is always at the forefront whether your potential client is on their phone or desktop computer.

Guest Posting

You can also try writing guest posts. It’s the perfect way to build your brand and get clients at the same time, but it can be tricky figuring out how to make sure you’re writing something people want to read. So remember to write helpful and informative topics and give your readers actionable advice they can actually use.

Write E-books

Once I started to be more knowledgeable about digital marketing, I started to write e-books. They weren’t 100-page e-books. They were just short e-books, but value providing. When your potential clients see the value you are providing in your e-books it means that you are answering their questions and addressing their pain points. This is when your leads will start trusting you and eventually decide to be your clients.

3. Prioritize Your Portfolio

It is really vital to prioritize your portfolio so you will know which projects must be executed and to invest in. With this, you will know which projects will promote the company’s growth and increase your revenue. With this, you will have a better portfolio that may interest your clients, especially if your target market is really hard to enter.

This is important as some clients are hard to please. When you are just starting up, you can tell your prospects all day that you are great with what you are doing, but they won’t believe it until they see it themselves.

4. Online Advertising

Digital marketing can be overwhelming, especially if you are a newbie. But if you want to compete with the giants in the industry, try advertising online. Here are some of the platforms you can use to advertise your products or services more effectively.

Facebook Ads

Almost all of your potential clients are on Facebook. That’s the reason why it is one of the best places to put ads and look for your clients. What’s great is that you can optimize your campaigns based on your target reach, so it can be cheap. On Facebook, you can either spend the money on boosting posts or you could just create a Facebook ad campaign. Either way will get your business off the ground with ease

Google Ads

Google Ads are one of the best ways to find clients because they don’t use demographic information, like age or location. What you have to focus on in Google Ads is the specific keyword intent. For example when someone searches “the best marketing agency in Korea” it is a strong indicator of what company they’re looking for–a marketing agency that is an expert in the Korean market! The only problem with high keywords and competition is that prices per click (PPC) go up as well which can make Google Ads expensive if you want them to work for you.

Instagram Ads

Instagram is a great place to advertise your products or services is because it has over 500 million active users. However, many businesses don’t realize though the importance of Instagram in digital marketing. The key to creating ads on this platform lies in uploading content that fits within its native feed– nice visuals, inspirational captions, and overall design. Hence it is important to make sure that you are taking these aspects into account before posting!

For me, retargeting is a powerful tool that can help you achieve the highest ROI since retargeted ads are repeatedly shown to visitors after they leave your website. It means that you will have a repeat engagement with your potential customers who have already shown interest in your brand.

Many digital marketers don’t like sharing their secrets. Well, I don’t want to generalize, but I noticed in the specific industry where I was in, people were not sharing their secrets one hundred percent. They were guarding the secrets. I mean, they’re not even secrets, but they were guarding the information.

But when I started coming out, I started providing information and done walk-through videos and tutorials about different tools that business owners can use. This helped me gain more loyal customers and friends from the industry. So here’s what I recommend you to do:

One way of sharing your expertise is through online courses. It will show your potential clients that you have great knowledge of what you are doing. Hence, making them trust you more and eventually convert into a loyal customer. In addition, this will establish your agency as an authority in the industry.

Another great way for you to get clients is to engage with potential clients in online communities. The reason is that in online communities, you will learn what your target audience is looking for. Well, people tend to post online for answers, so you have to use that as an advantage to know how you will position your brand in front of them.

Reddit is one of the most popular online communities where you can get clients from. Here you can connect and have endless conversations with your target audience. But what’s great with Reddit is that there are small communities call sub-Reddits wherein you can bring your target audience all together as they will have the same interests.

LinkedIn

If you think that LinkedIn is just for people looking for jobs, you are wrong! Linkedin is actually a place where you can market your brand and connect with leads and clients. This social network is a great tool for meeting professionals in every industry and these professionals can be your potential clients.

Quora

Quora

Like Reddit, Quora is a place where you can engage and share your expertise. it is a platform most people use to ask questions. If you want to get clients in Quora, the best way to do it is to craft high-quality answers as it is a great resource for long-term traffic and network.

8. Online Events

Events for me are terrifying and I still don’t do them often. But to be honest, online events can give you endless possibilities for growth as it is a direct way for you to showcase your brand. Most clients love to watch and attend online events as they get to ask questions and get answers immediately.

Though online events are effective, it does not necessarily mean that you are always going to be the host. You can also be a guest speaker for online events with the same niche or you can sponsor and collaborate in other people’s online events.

It can be difficult to grow your agency with limited resources. However, by utilizing some of the tips listed above, you should have a lot more success in attracting and retaining clients.
