The landscape of content marketing has broadened significantly over the last decade. The Internet has come a long way since text-only blog posts and image-filled articles. Today content has expanded into many different formats such as videos, audio, and imagery— specifically infographics. Any content marketer looking to increase their impact can choose from a myriad of forms.

Although video content is making its rounds in every social media platform we all know and love, infographics continue to reign supreme. Infographics play a massive role in bringing traffic to your site. However, this doesn’t mean any infographic will do.

Creating infographics isn’t as easy as copy-pasting graphs and combining them with pretty graphics. It takes effort and skill to craft an infographic, making it a challenge to create. Due to this, many people can be intimidated by the idea of creating infographics. However, an infographic can go a long way when done correctly and continue to bring you significant results long after you’ve published it.

Since infographics have proven helpful in building backlinks and boosting a site’s SEO, many content marketers have included them in their strategy. In many cases, carefully crafted infographics can go viral, bring in massive traffic, and increase conversion rates.

So, how can you create a viral infographic?

There are many ways to do so, but we did the heavy lifting and research for you, so you don’t need to search high and low for these tips we’re about to share with you.

Making Your Infographic Viral

Making your infographic viral is more than how you share it later on. It begins in the early stages of creating your infographic. In this article, we’re going to dive in and discuss six tips you should refer to if you want to create a viral infographic.

Decide on a memorable topic.

One of an infographic’s main goals is to help others learn complex subjects and retain information better. So, it’s highly recommended that you select a memorable topic and create content that readers can relate to and learn from with ease. Most importantly, you want them to remember the infographic.

To make your audience remember your infographic, your content needs to be unique and easy to digest. Once you have decided on a unique and easy-to-understand topic, it’s time to create the content to go along with it. When creating your infographic content, remember to keep your audience in mind.

Narrow down your options

Although you need to make sure your topic isn’t too complex that your audience won’t understand it, you also need to remember that you need to choose a topic that is still unique. You can do this by narrowing down your options.

For example, if you chose to do something on digital marketing, the ideal thing would be to select a specific topic in that niche. Digital marketing itself is a broad topic, and it can be challenging for your brand to stand out in a sea of digital marketing infographics. However, if you choose a topic specific to your niche, such as “the use of video in digital marketing,” it can create a lasting impression, and the chances of it going viral are much higher.

Include enough data

Infographics are made of data. So, having enough data points is vital when it comes to creating a viral infographic. However, avoid slapping on complicated statistics and stick to ones that help create emphasis on essential points. Remember not to overwhelm your audience with too much data.

Do your research and collect as much data as you can. You can do this by doing primary or secondary research. For example, you can host surveys and collect results firsthand, or you could read existing studies and get data from existing researches. Once you have your data ready, you can choose a few that you find interesting or important to include in your infographic.

Don’t forget your sources.

Citing your sources is essential. Although this might seem trivial, having sources cited increases credibility and help your points stand out. Also, keep in mind to avoid using user-generated sources such as online forums, Wikipedia, Yahoo Answers, or Quora when citing where you got your information.

You should also keep your sources updated. Having unreliable sources can make your infographic seem gimmicky, and readers won’t be interested in what you have to say.

Show your expertise

Other than the above tips, you should choose a topic that you are passionate about and have expertise in. Given your knowledge and experience, publishing an infographic about something you have no idea about can backfire on you.

So, choose a topic that you are an expert on, have adequate knowledge, and feel confident about teaching others about. This way, creating content about it won’t be so tricky, and you’ll be able to extend your knowledge to others without second-guessing yourself.

Make it easy to share

Don’t forget to make your infographic easy to share. Credit yourself so everyone can recognize where the infographic came from. You should also keep this point in mind when designing the infographic. For example, if you want to share it on different platforms, make sure that the text is easy to read, and the images are eye-catching enough.

This is especially important if your audience is primarily on mobile devices. So, create your infographic with readable text and images that are easy to spot to keep your audience from squinting or scrolling through too quickly.

The Wrap Up

Infographics are super helpful when it comes to building your brand’s online presence. Once they go viral, endless traffic is bound to come flowing your way. However, creating an infographic is no easy task. You need to put in a lot of effort and have adequate skills in design and content creation. This doesn’t mean that it’s impossible.

With these tips above, you can get a head start on your viral infographic. Remember to choose a memorable and unique topic, provide enough data and statistics, cite your sources, showcase your expertise, and make your infographic easy to share.
