Samsung’s Pyeongtaek campus is the company’s largest semiconductor site, roughly 2,890,000 square meters in the Godeok area of Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, per Samsung Semiconductor’s newsroom post of 21 August 2025. Four fab lines are built, P1 through P4, P5 is in main construction with its first cleanroom piping under contract, and an identically structured twin entered groundbreaking preparation in mid-2026. Memory dominates output, with foundry capacity alongside it.

How Big Is the Samsung Pyeongtaek Campus?

Samsung’s own figures are the ones to quote. Its newsroom post of 21 August 2025 gives the campus as approximately 2,890,000 square meters, with a single fab covering roughly 990,000 square meters of floor area. The land came from the Godeok International New City industrial complex, which Samsung contracted into on 31 July 2011, per Pyeongtaek City’s municipal history.

Headcount tracks construction more than production. Dealsite reported on 31 December 2025 that the workforce had grown to about 70,000 from roughly 50,000 in the first half of that year, and that the P6 site was confirmed, its logistics center scheduled for demolition.

What Is the Status of the Samsung Pyeongtaek Fabs, P1 Through P5?

Four lines operate, P5 is in main construction, and the phase histories include documented suspensions. Treat every forward date as a reported target.

One naming note first. The P5 project is two buildings, and Korean coverage calls the twin P5 Fab 2, P5-2 or Fab 2. P6 is the separate later site. Two future buildings, two schedules.

P1 to P3. Samsung’s press release of 4 July 2017 records P1 in mass production on fourth-generation 64-layer V-NAND. Samsung Semiconductor’s Line 2 release records P2 on the industry’s first 16Gb LPDDR5 mobile DRAM using EUV, and the S5 foundry line beside it is still listed on Samsung’s foundry manufacturing sites page. KED Global reported on 7 September 2022 that P3, completed that July, entered full operation as a 30 trillion won advanced NAND plant.

P4. ZDNet Korea reported on 6 April 2026 that P4’s four phases were built in the order 1-3-4-2, and that Samsung issued purchase orders in late March 2026 for Ph4 and Ph2 front-end equipment, with tool moves from May or June and around November. Most of its capacity went to 1c DRAM, the core die for HBM4. Seoul Economic Daily reported on 23 April 2026 that P4 took 50 trillion won, holds four cleanrooms across two floors, and would use temporary-use approval to start Ph4 in July and Ph2 in November, roughly six months early.

P5. The record is uneven. The Elec reported on 2 January 2026 that construction began in 2023, was suspended the following year in the memory downturn, and was preparing to resume. Newsis reported on 17 November 2025 that Samsung approved structural work, describing a building of 650 by 195 meters, three floors, six cleanrooms against P4’s four, investment near 60 trillion won and operation from 2028. Seoul Economic Daily put P5 into main construction in April 2026 above 80 trillion won, inside a twin fab plan near 160 trillion won covering P5 and P5-2. KED Global reported on 21 June 2026 that groundbreaking preparation for the twin had begun, six months early.

The shape is still moving. Dealsite reported on 3 July 2026 that Fab 1 was first planned at four floors with eight cleanrooms, then cut to three and six to shorten the schedule. Kyeonggi Ilbo reported on 19 August 2026 that Pyeongtaek City is processing a plan change raising the floor area ratio on the A1-1 industrial site from 350 to 490 percent, which is what lets Fab 1 and Fab 2 go from two floors to three and lifts expected capacity by roughly half, with Ministry of Land review expected in October 2026.

Phase 1 is buying now. The Elec reported on 7 September 2026 that Hanyang ENG took a 148.06 billion won general piping order from Samsung C&T that day, covering zone 1 of the P5 Phase 1 cleanroom and running to 30 September 2027. General piping delivers and discharges ultrapure water, chemicals, industrial gases and cooling water at each production line, so it sets the interfaces every wet and gas tool in Phase 1 connects to.

What Is Actually Made at Pyeongtaek?

Memory first, foundry second, with the mix inside each building subject to change. ZDNet Korea reported in November 2024 that P4’s Ph1 was renamed P4F to P4H, hybrid, to run NAND and DRAM together, then reported in April 2026 that the remaining phases were committed to 1c DRAM.

A building’s designation at groundbreaking is a planning assumption, and its tools are chosen years later against the market of the day. Front-end process tools, wet chemicals, gases and metrology dominate Pyeongtaek demand, while packaging and test vendors are selling to a different site and a different organization inside the same customer, a split covered in the comparison of Samsung vs SK hynix suppliers.

How Much Power and Water Does the Pyeongtaek Campus Need?

Enough of both to be procured at national-infrastructure scale, each a supply market of its own.

On power, Money Today reported on 2 August 2023, citing the energy ministry, that the 500kV Bukdangjin to Godeok HVDC project supplies 3GW to Pyeongtaek and the southern capital region, and that the 345kV Godeok to Seoanseong line would raise campus supply capability to 2GW. Seoul Economic Daily reported on 26 December 2024 that the dedicated 345kV Godeok substation sits across a single road from the campus.

On water, Samsung’s Korean newsroom release of 30 November 2022 records a treated sewage reuse memorandum with the Ministry of Environment, Gyeonggi Province, five cities including Pyeongtaek and two state corporations. It states that industrial water demand at Samsung’s Korean semiconductor sites would more than double by 2030, and puts the volume available at about 474,000 tons per day. It arrives as feedstock and is processed on site, which is why ultrapure water systems are a standing purchase category at every Korean fab.

Who Builds and Supplies the Campus?

Three layers matter at Godeok, and two of them are Samsung.

Samsung fab procurement. Every process tool, production chemical and gas for the running lines is bought by Samsung’s Device Solutions procurement organization, which sits outside the construction project, runs its own vendor registration and qualification, and commits after the building layer is contracted. Deposition, etch, metrology and process chemistry vendors sell here.

The affiliate EPC layer and its sub-tier. Samsung C&T and Samsung E&A hold the structural, finishing and utility contracts, including 1.379 trillion won for P4 lower-floor finishing reported by Seoul Economic Daily in April 2026. Cleanroom, ultrapure water, gas, chemical supply and abatement scopes are specified inside those contracts, before tool-in, then subcontracted, and the subcontractor issues the purchase order: Hanyang ENG on P5 Phase 1 piping in September 2026, CK Solution on a 30.8 billion won P5 Phase 1 finishing package reported by The Elec on 14 August 2026, and Exa ENC, which Digital Daily reported on 19 August 2026 had taken 108 billion won of P5 packages in a month from both.

Third-party plants on and beside the campus. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources announced on 4 September 2026, in a release carried by korea.kr, that Air Products would expand semiconductor gas supply facilities in Pyeongtaek, its largest project since entering Korea. Pyeongtaek City is separately developing a 1.58 million square meter supplier estate at Bangchuk-ri, whose first phase supplies nitrogen and other materials to Godeok, per Asia Business Daily in 2024. These plants buy for themselves and set the response standard a newcomer is measured against.

How Does Selling Into a Campus Differ From Selling Into a Fab?

A single fab is one buying event. Pyeongtaek is a decade-long sequence of them, and P4 alone equipped four phases years apart, so a vendor who missed Ph1 had three further openings inside one building. Phase-level tracking beats site-level tracking.

Shell timing has stopped predicting tool timing. ZDNet Korea reported on 17 February 2026 that Samsung pulled P5 cleanroom construction forward by about six months, from early 2027 to the start of the third quarter of 2026, moved the insert work that precedes it from the fourth quarter of 2026 into the second, and moved piping from 2027 to the end of 2026. The report ties this to the shell first strategy Samsung set out on its 30 January 2026 earnings call: build fab space and secure cleanroom ahead of demand, then execute equipment investment quickly when expansion is needed. That splits the supplier calendar: facility and clean-process scopes are awarded early and compressed, while process-tool orders land later and in a shorter burst than the construction schedule suggests. Qualification holds its own pace through both, commonly 12 to 18 months, as set out in the fab qualification process in Korea guide, so a tool vendor who waits for a shell to top out has lost the window.

Map your product to a window rather than to the campus. Facility and clean-process scopes track P5 Phase 1 subcontracting, live now and running to the September 2027 piping completion. Front-end process tools track P4 Ph2 move-in around November 2026, then P5 from 2027, both weighted to 1c DRAM for HBM4, whose layers and buyers are broken out in the guide to the HBM supply chain in Korea. Direct purchase contracts exist, though most small and mid-sized foreign suppliers transact through a Korean entity or partner holding the vendor code, because invoicing, engineer dispatch and site access attach to a Korean legal entity. Facility-system scopes are bought separately, by Samsung C&T and Samsung E&A and by their subcontractors.

Pyeongtaek rewards suppliers who track phases rather than sites and can name the layer that buys their product. Under shell first, construction scopes are awarded early and tool orders arrive compressed, so both calendars need watching.
